 Summer Reading Program Don’t MYTH out on the Fun!
Each summer, The Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library picks a popular theme and celebrates the stories all summer. This summer, our theme is Greek/Roman mythology. Participate in contests, arts and crafts, and other exciting programs while discovering great tales about the gods and heroes of ancient Greece and Rome. Here are the upcoming events taking place this month.

| Mythical Monday Mornings Every other Monday: June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16. July 30 11-11:45 am
Children will hear and learn about myths and legends. Storytime will conclude with a short craft or game. Ages Birth-5.

  | Greek/Roman Mythology Diorama Contest June 11- July 27
Connect with your creativity and enter your own Greek or Roman Mythology-themed diorama. Entries will be displayed and voted on by staff and patrons. There will be one winner from each age category. Youth (up to age 11), Teen (12-18), and adult (19 and up). Winners will win a fantastic prize! |
  | Storytelling under the stars Thursdays: June 21, July 19, and August 9 7:30-8:30 pm
The entire family will have fun listening to the myths and legends about the sky and constellations and making a craft while sitting around a cozy campfire in the library’s backyard. Each month, we will feature a different story about the night sky while enjoying s’mores! All AGES.

| The Maze of the Minotaur June 11-August 4
A fiendish maze awaits you at the library! Those brave and clever enough to successfully puzzle their way through may find themselves rewarded. ALL AGES. |
  | Athena’s Awesome Arts and Crafts Wednesdays: June 27, July 11 & 25 3-4 pm
The goddess Athena was celebrated as the patroness of crafts and the arts. Join our very own “goddess of crafts”, as she brings myths to life with awesome crafts! AGES: 1st-6th Grade. |
  | Trigon Tournament Friday, June 29 and July 27 3-4pm
Do you love a little friendly competition? Well, grab some friends and sign up for our Trigon Tournament. Trigon was a ball game played by the ancient Romans. It involved three players standing in a triangle (hence the name) and passing a hard ball back and forth, catching with the right and throwing with the left hand. So are you up for the challenge? Please be sure to wear appropriate clothing and shoes to be playing outside. AGES: 1st Grade and Up. |
  | Animals: Myth or Legend, Fact or Fiction Saturday, June 30 2-3 pm
Common types of animals play important roles in myths and legends. Meet the animals firsthand, make a craft, and learn more about the roles they played in Green and Roman Mythology. |
  | Name That God (or Goddess)! Monday, July 9 12-1pmThink you know mythology? Become a participant in this Jeopardy- style quiz game and prove your smarts! AGES: 1st-8th Grade. |
 | Aphrodite’s Day of Beauty Friday, July 13 11-1pmAphrodite is the goddess of beauty….what better way to get to know more about her than by joining us for a day of beauty and pampering! You can get hand massages, manicures, and make a cute barrette of your very own! AGES: PreK-7th Grade. |
  | Poseidon’s Water Day Monday, July 16 11-1pmCome out and play at Poseidon’s Water Day! All Summer Reading Participants are invited to come and splash around in the water, play games, and participate in the ever-popular water balloon fight. You won’t want to miss it! (Dress in swimwear and bring a towel). ALL AGES. |
 | Exploring mythical creatures Monday, July 16 7-8pmIn the spirit of our summer reading program we will focus on the mythological animals and beasts lurking in all of the pages of the libraries books. Kids will draw, sculpt, and paint fantastic creatures from Greek and Roman mythology. AGES: PreK and up. |
  | Hero Quest Friday, July 27 11-12:30 pmEveryone loves a hero and here’s your chance to be one too! Plan to participate in a library quest (read: scavenger hunt) that will test the strength of your knowledge in all things mythological! AGES: 1st-8th Grade. |
